A Warm Welcome to Rotoroa Island’s New Managers: Sean and Marie
We are delighted to introduce Sean Carter and Marie Jordan as our new Island Managers.
As we bid farewell to our longtime Island Managers, Glen and Milly, it’s time to welcome a new era on Rotoroa Island. We are delighted to introduce Sean Carter and Marie Jordan as our new Island Managers. With Sean’s experience as a builder and Marie’s background in water ecology and tourism, they bring the perfect mix of skills to their roles, ensuring the island continues to thrive.
Sean and Marie were inspired by the opportunity to work together as a family while contributing to the island’s ongoing restoration efforts. They’re also excited to welcome the diverse range of visitors who come to enjoy Rotoroa’s walking trails, beautiful beaches, and peaceful accommodation.
Their children, Jay (8) and Fern (6), are already relishing life on the island. One of the family's favorite adventures so far has been paddleboarding around Rotoroa and spotting eagle rays gliding beneath them. Just recently, they had an unforgettable encounter with orca and their calf in Home Bay, a moment that was truly magical.
The changing season brings not just new faces, but exciting wildlife updates too. Sean and Marie are looking forward to the upcoming kiwi muster, where kiwi that have been raised on the island will be returned to the wild. They’re eager to see how many kiwi chicks arrive this summer, marking yet another chapter in Rotoroa’s conservation story.
As Glen and Milly ‘pass the baton,’ we thank them for their six years of hard work and the warm, welcoming environment they created for visitors, volunteers, and relieving rangers. We wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
