Rotoroa a finalist in Green Ribbon awards

23rd May 2013

Rotoroa Island has been named as a finalist in the 2013 Green Ribbon Awards, a Ministry of Environment nod to communities, organisations and individuals making outstanding contributions to protecting New Zealand's environment.

217 nominations were received for the awards, with the Manawahe Kokako Trust and Rotoroa Island being finalists in the category, "Protecting our Biodiversity".

Rotoroa Island trustee and chairman, Barrie Brown said being placed as a finalist acknowledged the efforts of a large team of people involved in the restoration of Rotoroa.

"Restoring the biodiversity of the island's ecology is a principal goal of the Rotoroa Island Trust. Our selection recognises the hard work of our many partners, from the Salvation Army to Auckland Zoo and our own island team."

Award winners will be announced on World Environment Day (5 June).
