Newly renovated with a large communal lounge and fully equipped
kitchen, The Superintendent's House offers comfortable
family-friendly hostel-style accommodation in the heart of the
Hauraki Gulf. It is ideal for both individuals and large family
The Superintendent's House on Rotoroa Island was the former home
of the island's most senior Salvation Army staff member, the
Superintendent. Consequently it occupies a lovely spot with
beautiful views across the Gulf and over to Coromandel. It's an
easy five minute walk from the wharf where you disembark.
Bathroom facilities in The Superintendent's House are shared
(there are no ensuite rooms). Pillows (but not pillowcases) are
provided; all other linen is BYO (incl. sleeping bags, sheets,
duvets and towels). Basic provisions such as tea, coffee, sugar and
oil are provided; all other food and beverages you must bring
yourself. It's fine to drink the tap water (which is

keeping the house clean and tidy; please do your own dishes and
keep the house as you would like to find it when you leave.
Cleaning supplies are provided.
Check-in is at 10.30am, which is shortly after the ferry arrives
Check-out is 9.30am, but we're happy to arrange storage for your
luggage if you'd like to spend the day on the island.

Please note there is no land line in your property so make sure
you bring your cellphone and charger. While it's fine to bring
alcohol with you, the Trust kindly asks that you respect the
history of Rotoroa Island.
An important note about bringing your food and
Please be aware that Rotoroa Island has a biosecurity management
plan in place. The Trust is working hard alongside Auckland Zoo to
prepare the island for the breeding and release of endangered
species. PLEASE ensure you check your bags and chilly bins for
ants, insects or other stowaways, and ensure that your shoes and
bags are also free of soil and seeds. Download our biosecurity checklist and ensure you follow its
precautions. You will need to bring it with you and present it when
you arrive on Rotoroa.
